Do I need a special bike? What tires do you recommend?
You do not need a special bike (unless you need an excuse to buy a new bike – then, of course, you absolutely need a new gravel bike). A road bike with at least 25mm or wider tires will work because most of the roads are hardpack dirt.
For gravel tires, we recommend filetreads to keep rolling resistance down on the paved sections.
If you’re using your road bike, we suggest durable tires with puncture protection to minimize the chance of a flat on the dirt sections.
Are the roads closed to traffic?
The roads are open to traffic. Cyclists must obey all traffic laws while on this ride.
It looks like rain/is too cold for me – can I get a refund?
Rule #9 my friend! The Dirty Apple Ride is a “rain or shine” event.
In the event of severe weather, we will be in touch!
What was this about rain insurance?
If it rains more than .25″ (1/4”) between 8am and 3pm, you may receive a refund of your registration fee.
Rain insurance is included if you register on or before Friday, Oct 11. Day-of registration does not include rain insurance protection!
Who is measuring and deciding about my refund?
An independent weather observer will provide the official measurement to our insurance provider. Payment will be solely determined by our insurance provider. WCC will notify you if a refund is forthcoming.
